moving out

Right now I am in the process of purchasing furniture, painting accessories, and rounding things up for....my new house! I am moving into my sorority house in August and cannot wait. Unlike most sorority houses our home is set up like...a home. The house is old, has had additions put on, and was the home of famous Michigan murderer, John Norman Collins (creepy right?). But despite the creepiness I am in love with our cute little house.

The house is divided into four "apartments" which give you privacy and a more grown up way of living than a traditional sorority house with a house mom cleaning and cooking for you! I'll be sharing a two bedroom "apartment" with one of my sisters which means...I GET MY OWN ROOM!

I've had my own room for my whole life, but getting to decorate a new room from scratch is so exciting for me. Right now my bedroom is very purple and girly, so I wanted a bit of  a change. I found this to die for Tommy Hilfiger bedding on clearance at Macy's and with my grandma's employee discount I got it for less than $50 (normally $150!!). The overall theme is nautical, preppy, and girly. To go with the theme I have been working on some crafts.

This is the start of my cork board jewelry display! The plan is to paint the cork pink, and the frame navy blue then use tacks to pin up my favorite statement necklaces.

I found the perfect nautical stencils thanks to my main girl Martha Stewart. I got mine at Michaels with a 40% off coupon for about $5.00. I decided to keep my art simple and made simple prints on pink paper. They are going in white frames ($2.00 at Ikea)and will be lined up above my bed.

The next item on my to-do list is making these boring Ikea pillow cases exciting! I scored these covers for $6.00 and with the insert it was about $12.00 for one pillow which isn't bad considering the pink matches my comforter perfectly. I plan on using my stencils again but I am still undecided what print I want to use.
