Zoo Babies

Yesterday, Alex and I went to the Toledo Zoo for a date. He has two weeks off from his old job before his starts up his summer internship so we decided to spend it going on fun day trips and dates. The Toledo Zoo is one of our favorite places to go, the zoo is small but packs in a ton of cool stuff. This year was baby year; they had twin baby polar bears, two baby lemurs, and a baby monkey. The combination of baby animals and human babies was a future teacher (and girl with baby fevers) dream!

one of the twins (Que chorus of aws)

baby monkey climbing. I think we stayed and watched this little guy climb around for a solid twenty minutes. Was I dripping sweat standing in the sun? Yes! Was it worth it? Totally.

this guy had the right idea
so did they.

my favorite at the zoo is always the elephants!

straight cheesin'

Forcing Alex to take pictures with the little wallaby's. The Toledo Zoo has a new walk-through exhibit where you the wallaby's can roam freely They mostly stayed in the shade except for one guy who sprinted in front of us. The kid behind us had the perfect reaction when he ran the other direction screaming "I'm gonna die", a bit dramatic but totally priceless.

In my head you could totally see the baby polar bears perched up on the rock behind us. In reality their white fur makes great camouflage and we just look like dorky tourists standing by a fence.

Craft With What You've Got

I had really great plans to finish all of my DIY projects in time for this link up, but then life got in the way and I never finished any of them. So you see, this is all I've crafted... You will notice I also posted these pictures about a week ago (so much progress right?) But it makes me feel better to say that cork board is completely covered in paint now (pat on the back). But the trim is still brown, and I still haven't framed my stencils. Maybe I'll get around to it next week.

But on a more positive note....Stay tuned for pictures from the Zoo tomorrow! There's gonna be twin baby polar bears involved so you better check it out.

Trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts

Yesterday Alex and I went to the Detroit Institute of Arts. Thanks to a millage that was passed in the country we're from it was free admission, so it was a really cheap way to spend the afternoon. Honestly neither of us are that into art, we appreciate it but we don't always get it. I have a tendency to act like a child and laugh at the naked statues, and Alex critiques the modern art saying that he could make it himself (and being that is he isn't really artistic this is supposed to be an insult). But despite our childish behavior we did enjoy a nice cheap date together.

Alex being super serious looking at some stained glass

Me being a lot less serious and taking selfies in the mirrors behind ancient pots :)

I was oddly drawn to all of the pottery and stone work more than the paintings. I love the blue and white together.

Detroit

I love the colors in this picture, Alex thinks he can make it himself...I'd really love to test that little theory of his

This really creeps me out, but it reminded me of my favorite book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, when Melinda glues the chicken bones to her paper and her teacher loves it.

9 Pictures of You and Your Spouse (or in my case boyfriend of 3.5 years)

This seemed like quite a fitting link up to do today since Alex and I have officially been together for 3 and a half years today! We spent the day at the Detroit Institute of Arts, I'll be posting pictures tomorrow but in the mean time here are nine awkward and adorable pictures of us over the last few years

Third Time Is The Charm

See these cookies here, without the story behind them they look just like ordinary cookies...but these cookies were the biggest pain in the ass I have ever experienced.

Alex had a pot luck at work and wanted to bring cookies, and unlike me he wanted to actually bake some from scratch (not even with a mix!) You see, I'm more of a pick something up from the store, put it on a plate and pretend I made it kind of girl...but I still volunteered to help.

Well you see...this recipe is amazing, it's the Mrs. Fields recipe and it didn't seem that hard to make. It did involve grinding oatmeal which is an added step, but the real issue what that Alex and I can't read directions or measuring spoons.

Let's just say it took three people to correctly mix the dry ingrediants for these damn cookies. Alex measured all of the ingredients with a tablespoon versus a teaspoon....and I added a 1/2 tablespoon of salt versus a 1/2 teaspoon. So let's just say we kind of messed up. Thankfully his mom knows the recipe by heart and was able to save the day. But I think this is my last attempt at baking for a little bit, whoever thinks baking is "relaxing" is crazy.

Hope my tales of being undomesticated were a welcome treat, hope everyone has a safe and fun memorial day weekend!
