Courage

I was inspired by The Shine Project to write a little post about courage:

I am an associate member of Best Buddies at Eastern Michigan University. Best Buddies is an "organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities."

Before Best Buddies I will admit that I was one to throw around the r-word without thinking. But after being around people with intellectual and developmental disabilities I know how wrong that it is. The R-word hurts, and it is not a word to be used lightly. But sometimes I do not have the courage to stand up and say so...

Ashley's post on the Shine Project has inspired me to have the courage to kindly tell people to think about their words and to stand up and say that I don't feel comfortable with people using that word. Even though it can be a touchy subject, since it is something I feel compassionate about I should not be afraid to show it.

Thanks Ashley, for inspiring me to have the courage to speak up about what I believe in
